Glenda Mosher Inspiration!

Today's Inspiration Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers features Glenda Mosher's Gallery seen here. I have long been inspired by Glenda's designs at Splitcoast, and adore her paintings as well!
I decided to pull a flower from one of Glenda's floral renditions. I wanted to try something a little different, so I decided to use watercoloring paper. I used a Penny Black stamp "Blush" and applied color directly to the stamp with Stampin' Up markers. I stamped a couple more flowers, then ran a wet brush over the entire image. I almost totally washed the image away, then restamped the flower twice to create a very watery look. I used Stampin' Up Itty Bitty Backgrounds to add a bit of flecks.
I diecut the image with my Nestabilities Long Rectangles, then layered it onto layers that had been stamped with Stampin' Up's Linen background (retired).
I finished off the design with a PaperTrey Ink sentiment, unknown ribbon and dragonfly brads.
Hope your weekend has had a grand start!

Origami Booklet

Here is the Origami Booklet tutorial that I promised you--this is my first tutorial, so I hope that I do not forget anything!

This idea came from an educational/reading workshop that I attended years ago for my job--a project for a poetry book; I have no name to credit the original idea to.

The supplies that you will need are:

Two 3 x 6 inch cardboard rectangles--
(You can use a cereal or Kleenex box, I used a lightweight piece from SU dp packaging)
Decorator paper to cover these pieces 4 x 7 inches
Three 6 inch square pieces (to create a three page booklet)
Three colored 6 inch square pieces to create the actual pages
Red tape or the adhesive of your choice
Ribbon or twine
Scoring board or bone folder

Score the three white sheets in half at three inches;

Score the three colored pages diagonally from corner to corner;

Flip over and score half way (at three inches) crossing the center point of the diagonal lines.

Flip the square back over and pinch the square into a triangular shape, creating a triangular pocket shape. You may decorate the inside of this pocket as you desire. I used SU's Baroque Motifs for a bit of added interest.

You are now going to attach the blue pocket page to the white base page. Place tape on one triangle at a time. Line the triangle up to the outer edge of the folded white piece.

Tape the second triangle the same way, lining up the edges. You now have one unit, or pocket page, for your booklet. Construct the other two pages in the same manner.

You will now attach the units together, creating the inside of your booklet. This picture shows how two units are taped together, back to back. You then attach the third page unit, readying it for the covers.

Adhere your 3 x 6 lightweight cardboard piece to the back of your decorator cardstock. I used carpet tape, seeing it's wide and very sticky. Trim the points of the cardstock so you do not have a lot of bulk on the corners. Use red tape to tape the edges down to the covers. Create both your front and back covers.

Attach your front and back covers to the page unit.

You are ready to cut a binding out of contrasting paper. I attached my grosgrain ribbon to the booklet by layering it underneath the binding strip before taping it down.

You may now decorate your booklet in any manner that you please; I chose to finish mine off with Prima flowers with brad centers.
Supplies: My Mind's Eye Bloom and Grow dp; Prima flowers; Target brads; Offray grosgrain ribbon; SU Tempting Turquoise and Whisper White cardstocks; Versafine Black Onyx ink; SU Baroque Motifs stamp set.
Hope you have an opportunity to create an Origami Booklet!

Dirty Girl Monthly Challenge

This month's Dirty Dozen and Dirty Dozen Alumni challenge is to case one of our first uploads to Splitcoaststampers...we were to change three things within our case--the sky's the limit! I decided to stick pretty close to my original which you can see here:

I used Confetti Cream, Always Artichoke and an unknown dp for the base of my card. The stamp sets here are Stampin' Up Stipple Butterfly and Itty Bitty Backgrounds. I stamped my butterfly on vellum, colored it with chalks and mounted it with dimensionals onto the decorator panel. I stamped the Itty Bitty's on the dp with Creamy Caramel ink to add a distressed look.

My new design follows: I used a large floral background paper (K and Company Classic K Margo) once again; this time with SU Not Quite Navy and Neenah Classic Cream. I added an extra layered panel; I stamped the same image (Stampin' Up Stipple Butterfly--I will NEVER get rid of this stamp!) onto Neenah Classic Cream with Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it with Copic markers, then die cut it with Nestabilities Labels One. My brad is Basic Grey's Two Scoops. All layers were popped up with dimensional tape.

Please check out the other Dirty Girl's challenge uploads here. Have a great Friday!

Creamy Texture

I was excited to see today's Sketch Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers! I had pre-Copic-colored this rose image (Flourishes I Love Roses) and wanted to create a design with a creamy, textured look. Today's sketch fit the bill just perfectly!

I used Neenah Classic Cream paper for the entire card. I created the textured strips with my Cuttlebug and Swiss Dot and Textile folders. My image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black before coloring with Copic markers. I used Nestabilities Long Rectangles to die cut the image panel.

Multi layers and sheer ribbon pulled it all together! Hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by!

Color Challenge Birthday Design

Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge for today was to use Kraft, Riding Hood Red or Real Red, and Summer Sun. Black was allowed as an accent color.

My black card base is layered with Real Red run through my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder, sandwiched with Kraft and Black. I used PaperTrey Ink white cardstock, both for my image and sentiment panels. I used Nestabilities Square and Square Scalloped dies, as well as their sentiment tag die.

The sentiment is PaperTrey Ink's "Birthday Basics," along with Crafty Secret's "Bouquet of Joy." I purchased this adorable image from Joan Fricker's online shop, Joan's Gardens.
I colored the image with multiple Copic markers and Spica Glitter pens. Stampin' Up's black gingham ribbon finishes off the design.

Thanks for stopping by! My origami booklet tutorial will be here soon! Have a great week!

So sorry that I have been away...I've been working hard on my projects for this weekend's (March 15)Splitcoaststampers Fan Club March gallery opening.

Here is an Origami Booklet that I created last year. It was a lot of fun to put together, and I am planning a tutorial for one day next week.

Leafy Birthday

This is a project for a male birthday--I was to make a 3 x 3 card top and birthday card using Always Artichoke, Black and a splash of other color. I decided to add Marigold Morning to the mix.

I started with an Always Artichoke card base, layering it with the black, Marigold and Stampin' Up's Artichoke designer papers. I used Stampin' Up's retired Autumn for my images. I stamped the long leaf with Memento Tuxedo Black onto PaperTrey Ink's Vintage Cream that I had die cut with Nestabilities Long Rectangles. I colored it with my Copic markers and then stamped a different leaf from the set, colored and cut it out, and mounted it with dimensional tape to the image panel. I layered the panel onto a black layer, then used my SU Photo Corner punch to create the two Marigold photo corners.

The 3 X 3 card top was done in the same manner, using the same supplies. The Copic colors that I used were BG93, YG11, YG03, YR21, Y17, C1, and 0 Blender pen.
Hope your week has a great start! Thanks for stopping by!

Pink Chocolate Kiwi Kiss!

This is for today's color challenge over at Splitcoaststampers--Pink Chocolate Kiwi Kiss! This combo made for a delightfully fresh and colorful Springtime theme!

I began by stamping Inkadinkadoo's Repositionable Class Botanicals that I purchased from Joan's Gardens. I used my favorite stand by, Memento Tuxedo Black for the image, and Versafine Black Onyx for the PaperTrey Ink sentiment (Mixed Messages). I colored the image in with my Copic markers, and diecut it with Nestabilities Long Rectangles.

My card base is Stampin' Up Chocolate Chip, layered with SU Pink Passion and topped with textured SU Kiwi Kiss. I added a few ribbons and the oval punched sentiment to finish things off.
Pretty simple!
