Patriotic Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Happy Memorial Day from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!
"Land of the Free, Home of the Brave." We would not be free
if not for the sacrifice of the brave men and women
in the past and in the future.

This design is intended for Independence day, but would be suitable to any other patriotic holiday as well.

The supplies used to make this card come from

I began by making the paper pieced Upper Peninsula using Stamp Simply's "Upper Peninsula" steel die. I cut 1/2" strips of Echo Park "America" decorator paper. The strips are then butted up to each other and glued or taped to a light weight paper, such as copy paper.

In my initial paper piecing, I glued my strips to card stock, but with all of the layers of paper and tape, had a difficult time die cutting though it all. I recommend lighter weight paper for the piecing as you will be layering it over heavier cardstock next-- cut two more die cuts out of regular cardstock, then glue all of the layers together to create a more dimensional appearance.

The white base for the image was die cut from cardstock using a Spellbinder Classic Rectangle die. The "liberty and justice for all" sentiment from Stamp Simply's clear "Old Glory" stamp set was directly stamped onto the panel with Tim Holtz Distress Ink.

The panel was mounted on the card base with Thermoweb 3D Foam pieces. Other layers were adhered with Scor-Tape.  An additional sentiment accent "4th of July" from the "Old Glory" set was stamped and die cut with Spellbinder Standard Circles.

This card measures a bit smaller-- 3.75 x 5".
